THE POSITION
The Sr. Director, Lean Transformation is responsible for developing, deploying and leading the Lean cultural transformation. The development of Lean cultural transformation is one of the most important pillars of the company’s overall transformation plan. This person will develop and implement a clear Lean roadmap to enhance the culture to deliver long-term improvements for the people, customers and shareholders.
The Sr. Director will have delivery responsibility for four senior Lean leaders (one direct report supporting corporate and three matrixed reports supporting the regions).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop a clear strategy for Lean cultural transformation starting with management to the facilities.
- Partner with the executive leadership team and regional leaders to develop a kaizen calendar and Lean training roadmap for the key company initiatives.
- KPI leadership: Design, Implement and track Enterprise, Function, Region, and Site level KPI’s. Coach the leaders to solve for the “Red’s” by teaching them Kaizen tools such as PDCA, Root cause assessment, 5S, 3P, Fishbone, etc.
- Actively seek and evaluate process improvements and methods to match organizational needs as outlined by senior leadership in operations or proposed by plants and translates them into CI projects.
- Propose and lead continuous improvement projects to achieve expected benefits.
- Oversee and deliver training from a CI body of knowledge.
- Develop reports of overall continuous improvement activities, including accomplishments, participation, projected activities and anticipated needs.
- Use appropriate measurement, analysis and evaluation methods to accurately identify and document process improvements.
- Train and coach direct reports and other manufacturing employees on CI processes and project management, including maintaining measurement standards, defining improvement plans and adapting CI mindset.
- Operate cross-functionally to assure information flow and understanding of overall process improvement direction and expected results.
- Helps define and maintain KPI structure in plants and regions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; master’s degree is desirable.
- A Lean expert with a minimum of fifteen years of experience in process improvement, with at least five years coaching and leading process improvement teams in a multi-site Lean organization following a formal management systems approach.
- A deep knowledge of and hands-on experience training and implementing TPS-based business systems using the following tools is required.
- Able to drive strategic thinking and continuous improvement in both operational and non-operational areas, including connecting the cross-functional resources to remove waste along the extended value streams.
