THE POSITION
This role is responsible for leading product development programs and maintenance efforts, allowing the company to stay at the forefront of innovation in the core strategic segment areas of defense, industrial, commercial vehicles and forestry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage day-to-day activities of formulators.
- Champion process improvements to improve quality and be strongly engaged with all levels of site operations.
- Understand the scope and direction of all lab projects and provide guidance and support to formulators.
- Oversee day-to-day maintenance for current technologies.
- Manage rework process to minimize waste and avoid repeat mistakes.
- Assist purchasing with raw materials, eliminate unnecessary raw materials and keep cost and inventory levels under control.
- Ensure proper storage of raw materials.
- Assist with input into sage new raw materials and update existing raw materials.
- Assist in SDS compliance and development.
- Help provide sales and marketing with progress updates in conjunction with established timelines; Provide technical support to sales and marketing as necessary.
- Participate in meetings with suppliers that will impact the decision-making process about approving their products for use.
- Manage the internal technical support process.
- Label compliance and development support.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Ten-plus years of laboratory R&D experience with at least four years leading a technical team. A background that includes paint formulations with waterborne / solvent borne performance coatings for commercial, industrial and / or military applications.
- Must score an average or better on the Munsell color test.
- Strong problem-solving skills and computer literacy.
- Adept at utilizing experimental designs and statistical tools to conduct scientific investigations and drive decision making.
