Director of Engineering -- Southwest (Closed)

THE COMPANY

Our client is a designer and manufacturer of specialty vehicles and aftermarket parts.

THE POSITION

The Director of Engineering will lead a team of engineers, designers and technicians. This person will be responsible for improving the engineering process and overseeing new product development, design and manufacturability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads a team of engineers, designers and technicians in processing current product orders, converting specific customer requirements to robust engineering designs / packages.
  • Directs activities of engineers and designers in all phases of engineering from customer specification to conceptual design to engineering drawings and bills of material to production / test support.
  • Drives improvements of all new and existing designs and processes. Supports the implementation of productivity and cost reduction initiatives through the Lean Organization.
  • Responsible for the quality of work. This requires that defect-free work is performed, and requirements of the company’s quality system are understood as they pertain to job duties and responsibilities.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. in engineering; advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 12 years in progressive engineering leadership roles that include new product launch and program implementation.
  • Advanced knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts and techniques.
  • A background working in a highly engineered, configured to order (CTO) product environment with multiple sales channels, such as trucks or specialty vehicles with exposure to electrification (EV) and / or hydrogen fuel cell technology is highly preferred.
