Director, Materials -- Southwest (Closed)

THE COMPANY

Our client is a leading designer and manufacturer of specialty vehicles and aftermarket parts and services.

THE POSITION

The Director is responsible for the following materials areas within the Capacity Division: S&OP, master scheduling, material requirements planning, ERP parameter management, production and inventory control, production planning, logistics and inventory management. This role works closely with sales administration, engineering, purchasing and operations management to ensure an effective flow of materials meets production and shipping schedules.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and lead the Business Unit S&OP process clearing, driving demand through the entire planning horizon.
  • Ensure the S&OP output is translated into the Master Production Schedule and that all firm, variable and open plannings windows are accounted for via process and deliverables.
  • Lead the detailed production planning process tied to the MPS and aligned to the Business Unit labor, material and machine / equipment capacities.
  • Strategically set and ensure all applicable ERP capabilities and functions are appropriately managed to achieve the desired level of output and at the optimal level of risk.
  • Provide leadership over physical inventory movements that tie back to the systemic parameters and supports optimal lineside material presentation.
  • Lead the on-site logistics capability from inbound receiving to outbound shipment.
  • Drive financial accountability of all aspects of inventory management.
  • Ability to successfully work across the organization, while influencing change regardless of direct reporting relationship.
  • Provide leadership and partners with key stakeholders across the business unit to drive process improvement and meet business objectives.
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement; professional growth; cross-functional / cross-divisional collaboration; and goal planning and execution.
  • Lead the team in achieving and supporting functional and continuous improvement-based development (ex-APICS, Lean Six Sigma, etc.).

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degrees in materials, supply chain, business or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Ten-plus years’ experience in materials, purchasing, supply chain or related functions. A background that includes working in a highly engineered, configured-to-order product environment with multi-level Bill of Materials such as automotive, specialty vehicles or aerospace is highly preferred.
  • Multi-plant management is preferred, where the focus is given on managing client / provider relationships between vertically integrated plants; JIT in a demand-driven / continuous flow environment.
  • Lean manufacturing background that includes implementing a pull-based supply chain system and leading and / or direct involvement in large-scale transformation projects.
  • Should possess great communication skills and ability to develop presentations to be delivered to top management, public groups and / or boards of directors.
