Our client is a rigging equipment supplier.
THE POSITION
The primary responsibility of the Director will develop, coordinate and implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations in the organization. This position will be one that is “boots on the ground”, in which the incumbent must have the flexibility and willingness to work both at a high level as well as not be afraid to “roll up their sleeves” and get into the day-to-day that is necessary to drive a safety-first organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the Executive Leadership Team to create an environment of open and transparent safety actions, communications, attitudes and commitments.
- Responsible for staffing competent and qualified safety personnel.
- Provides leadership for all projects and within ELT membership.
- Works with Regional Vice Presidents and Branch Managers of operations to jointly develop roles and responsibilities for how to implement safety across the company and monitors for compliance.
- Leads development and implementation of all Safety and Training related programs for the company; uses a pragmatic approach to prioritize programs that will drive behavior change and move the needle.
- Ensures project(s) are in compliance and remedy and bring non-compliance with site-based issues to the prompt attention of the CEO.
- Actively support communications program across the business unit with key client personnel.
- Proactively make recommendations for change and develop implementation strategies for continuous improvements and institute those changes.
- Proactively monitors implementation of the Safety Management System (SOPs, WIs, Lessons Learned, Best Practices).
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in health and safety, safety engineering, environmental health or related field required.
- Ten-plus years of occupational health and safety management experience on large and small industrial construction projects.
- Five-plus years of experience managing teams.
- Three-plus years of experience overseeing 20-plus simultaneous sites, preferably in different jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated track record of developing, deploying and driving adoption of safety programs that led to measurable improvements in safety performance.
- Intimate knowledge of lifting safety standards and practices in industrial construction projects may be required.
