7/12/2010 —
The New York Times ran an article yesterday about the improvements seen by Seattle Children’s Hospital in both patient care and its bottom line through its use of kaizen and continuous performance improvement practices. Using these processes helped cut Seattle Children’s costs per patient by 3.7 percent, for a total savings of $23 million.
This article includes improvement examples and discussion with other lean leaders from hospitals reducing waste such as Brian Lucas from Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota and Mark Graban, a senior fellow at the Lean Enterprise Institute.
